SELF Workout in the Park
Your avatar. Your park. Your friends. A social fitness game that brought SELF Magazine’s outdoor workout event to Facebook.
A little exercise in world-building.
SELF Workout in the Park turned the magazine’s fitness event into a place people could build, personalize and share. Players created an avatar, developed their own park and made fitness part of a daily game.
Working with SMERC for Condé Nast, we developed the game’s supporting systems and Facebook integration. Our work connected player progression, social features, purchases and analytics, supporting an experience built around returning visits and interaction between friends.
Make room for fitness
Players built their own wellness space, choosing equipment and arranging a park around their avatar. Exercise, refreshments and personal style came together in a setting that grew as they progressed.
Work out. Recharge. Repeat.
Activity used energy, and recovery kept the game moving. Virtual workouts and refreshment stops created a rhythm of effort, replenishment and reward. Short sessions gave players something to complete and a reason to return.
Bring your friends
Players could visit each other’s parks, invite friends and exchange virtual gifts. Facebook connected those interactions to people they already knew, making the park a shared space as well as a personal project.
The systems behind the park
We developed backend functionality for player activity, session data and in-game purchases. Analytics and payment integrations supported the team operating the game, helping them understand engagement and manage its virtual economy.
