UTEC-lab VR

Step inside the labs before you arrive. An interactive 360° experience that brought UTEC’s educational spaces to mobile phones and VR headsets.

UTEC-lab VR project

A first visit, wherever you are.

Choosing where to study starts with imagining yourself there. We designed and developed a virtual tour experience that let people explore UTEC’s laboratories, equipment and learning spaces from a distance.

Built around 360° drone footage and fixed-camera recordings, the application gave visitors control of their route. They could look around, stop at points of interest and open additional information, using either a mobile VR headset or their phone’s screen.

See the bigger picture

Drone footage introduced the surroundings, while fixed-camera recordings brought visitors inside the educational spaces. Together, they connected the wider setting with the details of individual laboratories, helping people understand both where they were and what they could explore.

Let curiosity choose the route

Visitors could explore at their own pace. Interactive points within the tour opened image galleries, short videos and links about equipment and academic resources. A laboratory became more than a room to look at: it became a place to investigate.

Look to interact

Inside a headset, visitors selected buttons by holding their gaze on them. These timed interactions made navigation possible without a separate controller. On a phone, Magic Window mode offered another way to look around the same 360° spaces, making the tour available without a headset.

Built for the next location

We structured the application so that new tours and content could be added without starting again. The same navigation and media tools could support another laboratory, an updated exhibition of equipment or an additional educational centre. UTEC had a foundation it could extend as its needs changed.
