Third Eye

Vampire or slayer? Your face decided. An Android game that used facial recognition to turn the people around you into allies and enemies.

Third Eye project

Vampire or slayer? Your facedecided.

Third Eye brought a hidden conflict into everyday life. Players pointed their phone’s camera at a face to discover which side of a vampire war that person belonged to.

We developed the Android game and its supporting backend, integrating Viewdle’s facial-recognition technology with player profiles, social interactions and progression. Our work connected the camera experience to the systems that kept the game running between encounters.

The first reveal

The first reveal was personal. Facial analysis assigned players to vampires or slayers, making their own appearance part of the fiction. Recognition became the starting point for their character and their place in the game.

Find your order

A movement-based mission assigned players to one of eight orders. The game drew on historical families and secret societies, including the Borgias, Shinobis and Order of the Rose, giving each player a place within its wider mythology.

A familiar face, a new identity

Scanning someone brought them into the game’s conflict. Friends could become allies or rivals, and everyday encounters became opportunities to build a following. The first release centered on assembling an army and establishing alliances.

Behind the camera

The scan was one moment in a longer experience. We built the supporting backend for player profiles, session tracking and game updates, and worked on the interface and feedback that carried people from recognition into play.
