MindMirrors
A cooperative game of self-discovery, where personal answers, symbolic puzzles and exchanges with another player shaped the journey.
What if the person youdiscovered in a game wasyourself?
MindMirrors explored how a game could make room for reflection. Players entered symbolic worlds, responded to personal prompts and discovered how their choices influenced what happened next.
We developed the systems connecting those choices to the experience: branching dialogue, remembered answers, cooperative exchanges and responsive environments. Alongside the playable prototype, we built tools that let designers create and revise journeys through visual mind maps.
A world shaped by your choices
The environments were part of the conversation. Colour, spatial arrangements and symbolic puzzles changed in response to player input, giving each journey its own character. Personal reflection became something players could explore through movement, decisions and encounters.
Someone else changes the story
Players exchanged symbolic “gifts”: insights that could influence both their own journey and their partner’s. Prompts and mirrored responses created moments of exchange, making another person’s perspective part of the experience. Cooperation helped shape where the story went.
The game remembered
An answer could return later in the session, woven into a new question or piece of dialogue. We built a system that stored player input and recalled it within authored narrative branches. Those callbacks gave the experience continuity, connecting earlier thoughts with later discoveries.
Mind maps became playable journeys
We built the authoring system around FreeMind mind maps, allowing designers to arrange dialogue, decisions and branches visually. Content could be edited collaboratively through Google Drive and updated without rebuilding the application. It gave the team a practical way to experiment with the writing, pacing and connections between different paths.
