KidNano
Draw a gesture. Change the music. An experimental mobile puzzler that put sound manipulation, remixing and musical discovery at your fingertips.
Every move changes whatyou hear.
We designed and developed KidNano to make music something people could play with directly. Touchscreen gestures became musical controls, turning movement into changes in rhythm, texture and playback.
The experience combined musical puzzles with room to experiment. Players could explore the included sound packs or bring their own music, manipulate it through gestures and export their mixes. Our work brought together game design, visual feedback, gesture recognition and a custom audio engine.
Draw it. Hear it.
Players traced shapes and patterns across the screen to interact with sound. A movement could trigger a sample, change a musical layer or introduce an effect. We built the interaction around an immediate connection between the finger, the screen and what came through the speakers.
Solve it by listening
The puzzles brought timing, spatial thinking and sound manipulation together. Players explored how their actions changed the music, using those changes to work through each challenge. Listening became part of finding the solution, with experimentation built into the process.
Bring your own soundtrack
KidNano worked with its own sound packs and with music supplied by the player. Tempo changes, reversed playback, loops and filters opened up different ways to reshape a track. Players could export their mixes and solutions, taking the results beyond the game.
Make sound visible
We kept the interface focused on motion and response. Colour, animation and reactive particles helped players connect an action with its musical effect. The visual design supported a tactile experience in which learning the controls and discovering new sounds happened together.
